Poor Elektra

Marvel Comics’ grrl-power superhero flick Elektra flopped loudly this past weekend, while the Samuel L. Jackson vehicle Coach Carter was a huge hit—thus proving conclusively that the American public would rather spend two hours with an angry black man than a big-breasted ninja supermodel.

Coming just months after DC Comics’ Catwoman took a nearly-identical box office nosedive, I think it’s a safe bet that the writing’s on the wall for movies about female superheroes.

Judging from the online reception both these movies got —a reception given by a predominantly young nerdy male fanbase—I put forward that maybe Hollywood’s misread their target audience for these things. For instance, and I’m just putting this out there: what if instead of making them action movies, movies like Elektra were pornography? And instead of fighting crime, the heroines, you know… gobbled a lot of cock? And instead of wearing costumes, they slowly undressed from them while being doused with a water hose?

I’m just putting that out there to Marvel and DC.
